This deleted scene from “The Office” adds a whole new layer to the most underestimated character of the show
The office has been underway for more than a decade now, but its heritage continues to grow with its timeless humor and adorable characters. Thank you to the NBC streaming platform, Peacock, the extensive surface episodes of The office Give fans of show scenes that they have never known before. Fresh clips that are sprinkled throughout the episodes contain crucial scenarios that the original version could not flesh out. The Recluse of the Bureau, the Human Resources representative, Toby Flenderson, is often hated by his colleagues, especially Michael Scott (Steve Carell). As the intermediate company for Dunder Mifflin, it is the voice of reason in the workplace. It is completely the delicate position to be anywhere, but especially at Dunder Mifflin. Regarded regularly in ruining Michael’s day (although this has never been his intention), Toby is the representative of human resources with a soft voice for Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. It is in this same episode that Michael enrolled Dwight (Rainn Wilson) Help supervise it for drug consumption to try to get it fired. His program obviously does not go as planned and Toby remains employed in the company. In another example of his bad relationship with his colleagues, season 4, episode 15, “night out”, he has one of the most sadly famous moments of his time in Dunder Mifflin. After being stuck with the rest of the staff after the hours at the office, in a moment of lightness, Toby places his hand on Pam’s knee. It is in the annoying moment that Toby announces that he is moving to Costa Rica. His character is defined by his unique ability to make each altercation in which he is involved in an incredibly uncomfortable or simply a disappointment.
A scene deleted in “ The Office ” reveals Toby’s unexploited potential
In the supervisory episode of The office Season 2, episode 4, entitled “Fire”, Dunder Mifflin’s staff are quickly evacuated from the building. While waiting in the parking lot permission to return inside, Jim (John Krasinski) and PAM (Jenna Fischer) Chat with the documentary team while relying against a fire truck. Surprisingly, Jim reveals to Pam that he and Toby were in fact next to the others in the office. However, most likely fueled by his hatred towards Toby, Michael Scott separated them because they were too talkative. Michael desperately seeks Jim’s approval throughout the series, which makes this theory all the more likely. This is specified in season 2, episode 13, “The Secret”, where Jim reveals a major secret to Michael. The new trust that Jim shows him makes him unbearable, while he begins to imitate each of his movements in an attempt to prove that they are friends.
As mentioned above, it is a well-known fact that Michael despises Toby. So it is not surprising that he wanted to make him unhappy by separating friends. In addition to joining the rest of the staff for a conference meeting here and there, the human resources representative is often found isolated in the annex of the back. Sitting far from the majority of the staff, the only other employee at the rear is the representative of the customer service for the scranton branch, Kelly Kapoor (Mindy Kaling).
However, if Toby had stayed at his first office, he could have had a larger arc on the show. This could have led to a radically different life, far from its dull existence to the paper company. This is particularly true with regard to his friendship with the paper seller, Jim. He is one of the most popular people in the workplace and generally gets along with everyone. With his help, Toby could have found his place in the office among the rest of the staff. It could even have potentially helped him to reach a point where he and Michael had a more tolerable relationship. (Difficult to imagine, I know!)
Not only that, he could also have opened up opportunities for a better love life. In addition to the disturbing moment above between Toby and PAM, it is obvious that he had feelings for the receptionist. Season 4, episode 19, gave an overview of the public on what Toby’s relationship could have been with her. In the episode, the office is organizing a farewell party in Toby. It is then, Pam admits that she has always found it cute, which is a fairly surprising admission. The deleted scene offers an overview of a completely different Toby, Whoever would have come out of her shell if she had the opportunity. Doing this would have helped him to avoid difficult times and to establish authentic and lasting friendships with his colleagues.
