“Sinnners” leads Critics Choice Awards nominations with 17 nominations

Los Angeles (USA), December 5 (EFE).- The American drama “Sinners” on Friday became the most nominated film at the Critics Choice Awards, awarded by Hollywood critics, with 17 nominations, followed by “One Battle After Another” with 14, while “Frankestein”, by Mexican Guillermo del Toro, and “Hamnet”, will be in the running for 14 awards.
The four dominant films will compete for the best film award, which will be awarded on January 4 in Los Angeles, alongside other titles such as “Marty Supreme”, “Sentimental Value” or “Wicked: For Good”.
Directors Ryan Coogler (“Sinners”), Del Toro, Paul Anderson Thomas (“One Battle After Another”) and Choé Zhao (“Hamnet”) will also compete for best director, alongside Josh Safdie (“Marty Supreme”) and Joachim Trier (“Sentimental Value”).
In the list of best actor finalists, “Sinners” star Michael B. Jordan will face industry heavyweights such as Leonardo DiCaprio (“One Battle After Another”); Ethan Hawke (“Blue Moon”); George Clooney (“Jay Kelly”); Joel Edgerton (“Train Dreams”), Brazilian Wágner Moura (“The Secret Agent”); Jesse Plemons (‘Bugonia’) and Timothée Chalamet (‘Marty Supreme’).
For its part, the race for best actress includes Jessie Buckley (“Hamnet”), Emma Stone (“Bugonia”), the revelation Chase Infiniti (“One Battle After Another”); Rose Byrne (“If I had legs, I’d kick you”); Renate Reinsve (“Sentimental Value”) and Amanda Seyfried (“The Testament of Ann Lee”).
Likewise, “Wicked: For Good,” the second part of the fantasy musical about the story of the Wicked Witch of the West, received seven nominations. Among them, the absence of its protagonist, Cynthia Erivo, stands out in the category of best actress, although her partner Ariana Grande will compete again for the award for best supporting role.
Puerto Rican Benicio del Toro is also among the contenders for the Best Supporting Actor award for his performance in “One Battle After Another”, although he will not have trouble competing with the performances of his comrade Sean Penn, as well as Jacob Elordi (“Frankenstein”); Paul Mescal (“Hamnet”), Adam Sandler (“Jay Kelly”) and Stellan Skarsgard (“Sentimental Value”).
In the television section, at the Hollywood Critics Awards, considered one of the thermometers of the Oscar race, the drama “Adolescence” comes first with six nominations, followed by “Nobody Wants That”, with five.
