In a carefully choreographed press moment which required in -depth security and secret, President Joe Biden made an unexpected visit to kyiv on Monday to promise “an unshakable and unshakeable commitment to Ukraine.
The one -day excursion, which involved Biden to take a 10 -hour route through Ukraine, then visit the views of the capital with President Volodymyr Zelensky, was made to mark the next one year anniversary of the deadly invasion of Russia.
“A year later, kyiv gets up. And Ukraine stands. Democracy stands,” said Biden at a joint press conference with Zelensky outside the official presidential residence.
During the trip, Biden announced half a billion dollars of funding for Ukraine war efforts, including long-range weapons and ammunition.
