FORECAST SUMMARY

THE BIG PICTURE

As the new year approaches, Thursday will be an unusually cold and windy day. Despite more sunshine, temperatures will remain stuck in the teens and 20s, with temperatures in the single digits and teens. Heading to the Mummers parade in Philadelphia? Bundle up! Friday, the first weekend of 2026 promises to be uneventful in terms of precipitation. Temperatures will return to the lower 30s during the day and the upper 30s at night.

DETAILED FORECAST

NEW YEAR’S EVENING

A cold front arrives from the northwest, bringing a few passing snow showers, colder air and increasing winds. So tonight, mostly after dinner time, the window will open for snow showers and that window will stay open for much of the night until the cold front passes through. Little accumulation is possible for the core of our region, mostly less than an inch. In the Poconos, an inch or so is possible, especially in higher elevations.

THURSDAY NEW YEAR’S DAY

The first day of the new year will be mostly dry with partly sunny to mostly sunny skies. The big talk will be the temperatures. When you wake up, morning temperatures will be in the teens, but with a brisk breeze they will feel like single digits in some places. On our first day of 2026, expect high temperatures to only reach the mid-20s, and with a cool breeze factored in, it will feel like we’re in the teens despite more sunshine. Fortunately, the winds won’t be as strong as earlier in the week, but there could be wind gusts near 25-30 at times.

FRIDAY AND WEEKEND

Friday is expected to be an unseasonably cold, but dry day, with morning temperatures low into the teens and afternoon highs only in the lower 30s. At this point, the weekend looks to stay dry thanks to high pressure, so expect a mix of sun and clouds. High temperatures on both days of the weekend should be more tolerable in the mid-30s, but overnight lows will still drop to near 20 degrees on both nights.
