The Vineyard Gazette – Martha’s Vineyard News

The candidate for the chief of next chef, Ryan Scanlon, who discovered his passion for cooking in adolescence in Alchemy in Edgartown, was eliminated Thursday from the reality kitchen program, but obtained marks from judges.
The high chief of Vineyard has cooked his way to the last six on the successful competition of Gordon Ramsay produced by Fox. He competed in the professional category and in the running for the price of $ 250,000 provided with one year mentoring.
After preparing a cute net, with the bone still in, the judges determined that it was too cooked. Mr. Scanlon said on the show that the steaks are his expertise, but his comfort with the net was ultimately what hurt him.
“It’s just that I start my way that crushed me,” said Mr. Scanlon before heading for elimination.
Mr. Scanlon carried out a 25 -minute cook against competitors Megan Keno. The challenge was to cook a whole fish, something rooted in Mr. Scanlon, which in adolescence cooked many fish taken from the waters of Vineyard.
In the last two minutes, Mr. Scanlon accidentally torn the tail of a sea bream which he burned in a saucepan with garlic, fresh parsley, lemon and rosemary.
“I have never done this in any restaurant or even at home with friends and family,” said Scanlon on the show.
While the judges thought that the fish was well cooked, the tail broken and the use of rosemary finally cost him his place in the show.
Mr. Ramsay then told Mr. Scanlon that he would put him in touch with his restaurants in Boston to open a door to young talents.
“I would like to make you start so that we can really continue this trip and work literally and see what is going on on the horizon,” said Ramsay. “Our young chef with a young family, I will help you after this competition to get to where you want to go.”
Mr. Scanlon’s girlfriend, Angelia Childers, gave birth to their Baby Stasia two weeks before going to Ireland to film the show. He said his family was his main inspiration during the competition.
Ramsay, who chose Mr. Scanlon for his team at the start of the competition, said that his future was brilliant.
“You may not be a higher level chief, but at 22, you have this golden heart which is intended for success,” said Ramsey.
Speaking through tears, Mr. Scanlon thanked his mentor.
“It means the world, it really is,” he said. “I’m not going to drop you down.”
