The Vikings QB JJ McCarthy should miss week 3 with an ankle injury, could be released for several weeks

The Vikings of Minnesota are likely to start the quarter-Arrière JJ McCarthy in week 3 against the Bengals of Cincinnati. Head coach Kevin O’Connell said McCarthy for a sprain of the ankle after 22-6 of the team against the Falcons of Atlanta on Sunday evening on Sunday.
Assuming McCarthy is unable to go there on Sunday, Carson Wentz would be the starter of Minnesota. With the Bengals quarter, Joe Burrow, with an injury to the toes, Wentz would face his colleague Jake Browning in week 3.

O’Connell said McCarthy came “very, very painful” on Monday, which prompted the team to assess their ankle more. While O’Connell does not expect McCarthy to play in week 3, the coach said that he did not believe it was an injury that would lead to McCarthy placed on the injured reserve.
McCarthy could however get closer to this calendar, because the quarterrrière should be missing between two and four weeks due to the injury, which was described as a spraining with a high box, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
It is not known when McCarthy suffered the injury during the defeat of week 2 of the team against the Falcons, although some assumed that this had happened on a third quarter race.
McCarthy was able to stay in the competition, but could not do a lot of offense. In the fourth quarter, McCarthy returned the ball on two of the three Vikings trips. He was dismissed and tried to start a quarter, led the team three to three on the next training and was intercepted with 2:41 to play.

After missing all last season with a knee injury, McCarthy mainly experienced difficulties during his first two departures of the NFL. During two games, he launched 301 yards, with two affected against three interceptions.
These two touchdowns occurred in the fourth quarter against the Bears of Chicago during the week 1. After a slow start to this competition, McCarthy joined to lead the Vikings to a victory at the end of 27-24 against Chicago. He could not resume this magic against the Falcons during week 2.
If Wentz receives the call, he will mark his first departure since week 18 of 2024, when he started for the Kansas City chiefs in a match where most of the starters sat. Wentz held this same role with the Rams of Los Angeles in 2023, starting the last match of the season while the starters rested for the playoffs.

If Wentz begins in week 3, he will have marked the first time since 2022 that he appeared in a match with the rest of the offensive near the full force. Wentz started seven games for Washington commanders this season, launching 11 affected against nine interceptions. It was set up in favor of Taylor Heinicke and Sam Howell in the section.
Thanks to the end of the heroism of McCarthy in week 1, the Vikings are 1-1 in week 3.
