The UTD man cricket team, India meets at Carrington Training Ground

Two global sports powers met while Manchester United welcomed the national Indian cricket team in Carrington, mixing the worlds of football and cricket in a rare and memorable crossing.
India, in town for its series of tests against England, stopped on the United training field to spend time with the players and the staff of the Premier League club. The meeting was captured in a series of photos and dynamic videos published by the BCCI and Adidas, labeled with the appropriate legend: “United in Manchester”.
The visit started with a warm welcome from the senior officials and legends of the Uni club, followed by an exchange of a symbolic jersey – the two teams carrying personalized versions of the shirts of each other.
From there, the event took place in a mixture of friendly football and cricket challenges, shared laughter and insightful conversations between the athletes at the top of their matches.
The captain of India Shubman Gill took the time to speak with Bruno Fernandes of leadership and mental preparation through the disciplines.
“It is very exciting to be able to meet the best athletes in the world from another sport,” said Gill. “Getting to know their stories is very inspiring. You play two different sports, but the state of mind with which you play is, most of the time, very similar.”
Meanwhile, India’s head coach, Gautam Gambir, met the boss of United Ruben Amorim to discuss coaching philosophies and team culture.
“It was a great interaction – what is its ideology towards team sport and what is my ideology towards team sport,” said Gambir.
After a dark 2024/25 season, United may use part of this wisdom shared before the new campaign.
