The United States plans to ban Iranian diplomats from shopping in Costco at the UN meeting

The Trump administration has already denied the visas for the Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and his large delegation to attend a UN high-level meeting this month and now plans to strengthen restrictions on several other delegations that would seriously limit their ability to travel outside New York.

Potential and other restrictions could soon be imposed on delegations of Iran, Sudan, Zimbabwe and, perhaps in a surprising way, of Brazil, which organized a traditional place of honor during high-level leaders gathering in the United Nations General Assembly which begins on September 22, according to an internal service of the State Department seen by the Associated Press.

Although the potential restrictions are always under study and the circumstances can change, the proposals would be another stage of the repression of the Trump administration against the visas, including a large examination of those who already have legal authorizations to come to the United States and those who seek to go to the UN meeting.

The movements of Iranian diplomats are seriously limited to New York, but a floating proposal would intervene with large large members of large members like Costco and Sam’s Club without first receiving the express authorization of the State Department.

These stores have been a favorite of Iranian diplomats published and visiting New York because they are able to buy large amounts of products not available in their economically isolated country for relatively cheap prices and send them home.

It was not immediately clear if or when the purchase ban proposed for Iran would take effect, but the service note declared that the State Department also planned to write rules which would allow it to impose terms and conditions on membership on large clubs by all foreign diplomats in the United States.

For Brazil, it was not clear if potential visa restrictions affect President Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva or the lower level members of the country delegation to the United Nations collection.

The president of Brazil is traditionally the first world leader to speak in front of the officials gathered on the day of the opening of the session. The American president is preceding the second speaker.

Lula was the target of US President Donald Trump, who opposed the prosecution by his government of his friend, former President Jair Bolsonaro, on allegations to direct a coup attempt.

A country that will see less restrictions is Syria, whose members of the delegation have received a derogation from the limitations that have been placed on their UN trip for more than a decade.

This renunciation was issued last week, according to the memo, and comes when the Trump administration seeks to establish links after the Syrian president, Bashar Assad, and to integrate the old pariah nation in the Middle East, last year.

Although appointed as possible targets, the memo did not specify which restrictions could be imposed on Sudanese and Zimbabwean delegations.

The State Department did not immediately provide any comments. Iranian and Brazilian missions of the UN did not immediately respond to requests for comments.
