The Champions League is coming back this season while the biggest European football clubs are preparing to compete.
The competition of last season was won by Paris Saint-Germain under the direction of the manager Luis Enrique, who guided the French club towards his first triumph of the Champions League.
The trip to the Champions League for 2025/26 took place quietly but regularly for months, long before the glamor of the group phase and the lights of the largest arenas in Europe occupy the front of the stage.
Since the beginning of July, the competition has been boiling qualification rounds, where less known clubs from all over the continent have fought fiercely for a place among the European elite.
In total, 53 teams were part of this rigorous process. Among these, 42 sides have entered the Champions Chemin, which is specially designed for the winners of the League of Little European Nations, while the 11 remaining clubs joined the league route, reserved for non-strong leagues’ non-champions.
The stakes were only seven coveted slots in the newly formatted league phase of the Champions League, a price that can transform the financial and sporting fortunes of a club during the night.
This week brought the last series of qualifications to a dramatic conclusion. Wednesday evening, European regulars Benfica, as well as Qarabag and Club Brugge, emerged triumphant from their links, securing their place in the main draw.
With the wrapped qualification towers, the full range of 36 teams is now confirmed. All will start their quest to follow in the footsteps of last season’s winners, Paris Saint-Germain, who claimed their first European crown categorically.
The phase of the Champions League promises a drama, emblematic nights and perhaps even the birth of another historical story, just as PSG wrote theirs last season.
