The third of STARFIGHTER has been reworked

The last time we sat down to watch a Star Wars film in theaters, it was in 2019, when The Rise of Skywalker closed the Skywalker saga in a divisive way.
Lucasfilm has since focused on streaming series like Andor, The MandalorianAnd Obi-Wan Kenobibut 2026 will see the franchise return to the big screen with The Mandalorian and Grogu. While several other films are in various stages of development (or, in some cases, in development hell), Star Wars: Starfighter is currently filming and is expected to be released in 2027.
Deadpool and Wolverine And Stranger Things Director Shawn Levy will be at the helm of the film which would take place after the events of Episode IX. Ryan Gosling leads Starfighterand in a new interview, Levy revealed that he recently had to rework the film’s third act.
“There was something unexpected on Starfighter” the filmmaker says in the video below (via SFFGazette.com). “It was, we had a completely different idea for something in the third act, and then things didn’t line up and I was forced to come up with a new idea. And I’m literally shooting that section of the movie.”
“And every day I’m grateful that the way I was supposed to do it didn’t work, because the new idea that this forced me to explore is much better than the original idea would have been.” Levy added, admitting that he feels the pressure of telling a story in a galaxy far, far away.
“The first few weeks of filming, it was like a kind of oppressive cloud over me, because every day, they were asking me a hundred questions a day. And especially Starfighter, it’s not a sequel, it’s not a prequel, it’s not legacy characters. And it’s not in a time period in the galaxy that’s never been explored.”
Levy continued, “What that means is we invent everything in the movie. And the desire to make design choices, character choices, planet choices, costume choices, droid choices, alien choices, all of that has to feel like Star Wars.”
Assuming Star Wars: Starfighter is set a decade or two later The Rise of Skywalkerso it’s really a period that hasn’t been explored before. For starters, it will depict a galaxy that is no longer ruled by the Empire or the First Order, which means we’re expecting big changes, similar to the difference between the prequels and the original trilogy and its sequels.
As Levy says, “I’m really committed to not letting anything seem derivative or lazily copied. [Kathleen Kennedy told me]’Make it original. You choose the writer. You choose the story. Just make it look like a Shawn Levy movie. Make it warm and fun and designed for audience enjoyment.’”
As reported, the film’s cast will be led by Free guy Starring Ryan Gosling. He is accompanied by Flynn Gray (Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2), Matt Smith (Dragon House), Mia Goth (Infinity pool), Aaron Pierre (Lanterns), Simon Bird (Intermediaries), Jamaël Westman (Hedda), Daniel Ings (lovesickness) and Amy Adams (Man of Steel).
Star Wars: Starfighter will be released in theaters on May 28, 2027.
