The Stranger Things star explains why she stayed in the shadows for five years: ‘I’m living my truth’

Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Finn Wolfhard and Winona Ryder are just a few of the fan favorites returning in Stranger Things for its fifth and final season.

However, the fantasy drama series has seen many characters come and go over the years (quite often thanks to the demogorgan, mind flayer, or other needlessly terrifying creature); but when they leave the show and subsequently become household names, we don’t expect to never see them again.

In fact, Dacre Montgomery, who played lifeguard Billy Hargrove, disappeared from the scene over the past five years and he finally opened up about his decision to live a more low-key life.

The 30-year-old starred in Stranger Things 2 and 3, leave In 2016 and since the series, he has only starred in a small number of projects, including Elvis And Spider and Jessie.

His departure from Hollywood was completely voluntary (this year being marked by a return in Ghost Story, I went up the hill), with the goal of regaining a sense of normalcy before continuing to do what he loves.

“Traditional Hollywood stars existed because there was mystery,” Dacre said recently. The Australianaccording to the Daily Mail. “Social media has suppressed that. It’s a big part of why I’ve fallen off the map in the last five years.”

Unfortunately, he won’t be back for the final season of the Netflix series, which ends in December.

He added: “I’m not trying to compete with anyone else, I’m living my truth and hopefully I can pay the rent while I do it.”

“I gave a part of myself to every role I played and that’s a big part of why I took time off,” he continued. “Lately, there’s been a lot of self-reflection about what I want in my career. I’m trying to have a little more control over where and what I work on.”

It’s about having more boundaries – and we can’t wait to see Dacre back on our screens. I just hope I don’t get sacrificed to a monster this time.
