The American Film Institute focused on a pair of Hollywood creatives very decorated to honor her next start of the curator. Viola Davis and Walter Murch are each confirmed to receive an honorary doctorate in Fine Arts during a ceremony scheduled for TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood on August 8.
“Viola Davis and Walter Murch – The two masters of their profession – symbolize the AFI standard of excellence was founded to celebrate,” praised the president and chief executive officer of the AFI, Bob Gazzale. “Their contributions to the art form have inspired the public around the world because they will inspire graduates of this year of the AFI Conservatory.”
With the distinction, Davis and Much join a group of honor recipients from AFI, who include Robert Altman, Maya Angelou, Saul Bass, Angela Bassett, Kathryn Bigelow, Mel Brooks, Caroli Burnett, Anne V. Coates, Jamie Lee Curtis, Clint Eastwood, Roger Ebert, Nora Ephron, Link Linka, Nora Ephron, Jode Lawrence Kasdan, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Kathleen Kennedy, Angela Lansbury, Spike Lee, David Lynch, Helen Mirren, Rita Moreno, Quentin Tarantino, Lily Tomlin, Robert Towne, Cicely Tyson, Haskell Wexler, John Williams and Michelle Yeoh.
Davis, who obtained EGOT’s status, graduated from the Juilliard School who also received an honorary doctorate during his 109th start ceremony. She also hung one of her other Alma Mater, the Rhode Island College. The co-founder of Juvee Productions (alongside her husband Julius Tennon) leaves the last outing of G20 Amazon MGM studios.
