The series “Dangerous Liaisons” by Nicôle Lecky in preparation on Netflix UK

EXCLUSIVE: Netflix opened a writers room for Dangerous connections, a contemporary take on the popular tale of manipulation and seduction, sources tell Deadline. The project comes from Mood the creator and star Nicôle Lecky, the creative engine of Drew Comins (Yellow vests) and Fifth Season where the company struck a first look deal. It was developed through Netflix UK, with the writers’ room set up in London, I’ve heard.
Inspired by the 18th century French novel, Dangerous connections ia modern reimagining set in 2025 London. A globe-trotting, heartbreaking and scintillating erotic thriller, it is an unflinching exploration of power, wealth, race, romance amid the unabashed sexual appetites of the British ruling class and new financial elites.
Lecky is the writer/executive producer. The project was preemptively sold to Netflix several months ago with a writers room commitment, I hear.
A Netflix representative declined to comment.
For his work on his first BBC 2023 series MoodLecky won two BAFTA Awards, including Best Miniseries. It was based on Lecky’s solo piece Superhoe, in which she wrote and performed at the Royal Court Theatre.
Lecky was on Netflix’s radar, after winning the Netflix New Talent Award in 2022. His follow-up series for the BBC, thriller wild cherryis expected to debut in November.
At Netflix, Creative Engine also has a series adaptation of Adam Silvera’s bestselling YA novel. They both die in the endwith The Bridgerton Chronicles creator Chris Van Dusen writes and Bad Bunny produces, along with Lena Dunham Blankets via Netflix UK.
Over the years, numerous covers have been made Dangerous connections in cinema and television. Netflix released a French film in 2022, a modern reinterpretation set in high school. Recent iterations also include the Starz Dangerous connections series, Prime Video Cruel intentions and the next HBO Max Seduction.
