Aston Villa seeks to make significant changes to their team for the 2025-26 season, and a number of replacements will be required. Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio returned respectively to Man United and Paris Saint-Germain following loan spells during the second half of the previous campaign, and none is probably wanted.
However, Aston Villa would have the possibility of re-signing one or the other player, if he wished. But in the case of Asensio, it is unlikely that there is another prosecution despite its significant impact at Villa Park last season.
But a return to the Premier League could always be on the cards for Asensio, which has no future at PSG.
Man City and Barcelona offered the chance to sign Marco Asensio
According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), PSG offered Asensio to several clubs, including Man City and Barcelona. The two clubs could compete with Inter Milan in the race to sign the 29 -year -old, because the Giants of Serie A have recorded their interest in recent days.
The problem is that Man City shows no sign of being interested in a decision, while an agreement with Barcelona could also be delicate – and not only because of their financial problems. Asensio is a former Real Madrid player, so it is unlikely to accept the move, and the Liga champions are not very enthusiastic.
PSG hopes that the impressive loan spell of Asensio at Aston Villa, who saw him record eight goals and a help in 21 appearances, will lead to a permanent transfer completed before the end of the summer.
For the moment, it remains to be seen where Asensio ends by the beginning of September. Aston Villa could rekindle their interest at some point, but it seems unlikely.
