The Rhode Island Film Festival brings awarded shorts to the

Flickers Rhode Island International Film Festival, the biggest Ocean State film festival arrived in Los Angeles Wednesday evening to launch its award -winning window at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. The Oscar Qualification Festival will be in Los Angeles for the next two weeks, projecting the best of its Shorts programming for the consideration and pleasure of Hollywood.
The projection of last night in the Museum Ted Mann Theater was a panel of the industry featuring the director of legal affairs of Warner Bros. Discovery, Courtney McNulty, the vice-president of budgets and acquisitions of film Frontier Studios and the director of the casting Deborah Aquila. The panelists discussed the value of festivals, markets, representation and connection in the film arts. The director of RiiFF community commitment, Ericka Atwell-Cardona, presented the window to the public, saying: “We are here to look at their work, celebrate their voices and support them on which they get up. Because in RiiFF, we don’t only believe in talent. We believe in the community. ”

Wednesday’s projection block was entitled “Meet the unknown”. It had eight award -winning shorts from the RiiFF range which deal with uncertainty or fate. The titles were the best winner of the public prize “Retry Plan”, directed by John Kelly; Best winner runs to live action “the most powerful human on earth”, Directed by Andrew Richardson; Best animated “ovary-acting”, directed by Ida Melum; Best publishing winner “A Sisyphean Task”, directed by Gus Flind-Henry and George Malcher; Best short winning documentary “Voices from the Abyss”, directed by Irving Serrano and Victor Rejón; The best winner of the comedy “Cake”, directed by Caro Ribeiro; The best choice of public choice “how I learned to die”, made by Manya Glassman; And the winner of the New England Filmmaker Award “My Kind of People”, directed by Joe Picozzi. The short films came from five countries of the world and presented eccentric and introspective voices in independent cinema. A Q&R with the filmmakers present followed the projection.
“Meet the unknown” will continue to play from September 12 to 18 at Theemmle Theater in Glendale. A second Shorts program, entitled “Breaking Boundaries”, will then play at Laemmle from September 19 to 25. “Breaking Boundaries” will include the winner of the Breaking Boundaries Prize “In the Clouds”, directed by Alexandra Bahiyyih Wain; The best winner of “Amarela” performance, produced by André Hayato Saito; Best winner of the cinematography “Do not leave me”, directed by Karim Huu Do; Alternative Spirit Award and Best LGBTQ winner “A Thing About Kashem”, directed by Bijon Imtiaz; The best winner of the scenario “Last Day in Sofia”, directed by Denis Spiridonov; And the laureate of the Documentary Short Public Award “The Window On Death Row”, directed by Linda Catherine Freund.

The executive director of RiiFF, Shawn Quirk, said: “These two weeks of short films provide a dynamic and exciting selection of some of the best world talents in the film industry. All the filmmakers represented in the price of this year prices represent the next generation of independent cinema, and they will all be at the top of everyone’s radar from here. ” Since it became an Oscar qualification festival in 2002, Riif has seen 94 of his films continue to receive nominations at the Oscars, winning 14 victories.
Riif Proper took place in Providence and Westerly, RI, from August 5 to 10 this summer. The organization offers programming and support all year round for local filmmakers, and the festival will return to Rhode Island from August 4 to 9, 2026.
