Jordan Spieth was held in the microphone on Saturday evening in Dublin, Ohio, satisfied with the display of the golf that he had organized during the first three days of the 2025 commemorative tournament in Muirfield Village. But the triple major champion offered a warning on his chances of shaking the hand of Jack Nicklaus as a winner on Sunday.
“The disappointment for me is [Scottie Scheffler is at 8 under] And he – you know, you cannot count on him, even tomorrow, so it would take something special, but overall, trying to pull some per day here. “”
Yes, Scheffler, the defending champion of the commemorative tournament, will sleep in the advance of 54 holes after shooting a 68 under page 68 to take ahead on Ben Griffin in the last lap. He won the last eight tournaments in which he held the pure and simple advance of 54 holes.
Spieth will start the shots of the day behind Scheffler after a round of six Birdie and Six-Bogey who saw him shoot even and finish 3 under the tournament.
Spieth’s dashboard could look for a day for a six -flangs, but the 13 -time winner PGA Tour did not feel in this way. In fact, it is the best Spieth so far in his return from intersane wrist surgery and a horrible season of 2024.
His 54 holes in the village of Muirfield make him feel confident about the trajectory of his game for two reasons: the feeling of his swing and the major type test that Jack Place presents.
“It was just as if it was close to really,” said Spieth after the Tour. “Yesterday, it was the day I could have become very low. Yeah, I mean, it didn’t look like roller coaster. It is good to have the power of fire, the quantity of birdies today, one day like today. The game feels better and better. I feel like I hit my positions – call it half or 75% of swings when I was looking for one or two direction, even if a month a month ago. A little more focused out of the place of trying to just make swings, and that makes a difference.
“A course like this, whatever happens tomorrow, I know that if I am able to play the coherent golf on a course like this, then I go in the right direction, and I just need to stay the course. It will take a little time.
Weekly statistics support Spieth’s assertion that his swing is in a better position than it was at the start of his return.
In three laps, Spieth wins 3,912 shots at the approach, 1.812 out of the tee and 2,380 around green. This ranks respectively in eighth, 10th and eighth, this week. These figures are much better than Spieth’s seasonal numbers. The year, Spieth earns only 0.332 strokes of the tee, 0.157 on the approach and 0.212 around green. None of these rankings in the top 20 of the PGA Tour.
This week, the only negative aspect of Spieth’s game was his damn, which makes him lose features of 0.374 on the Greens.
Spieth will start five shots on Sunday of Scheffler, a friend and peer that he admitted that he was pursuing, just like everyone else.
“I mean, it was not so long since I was certainly Better than him, and now I am certainly Not for the moment, “said Spieth at CJ Cup Byron Nelson after Scheffler’s record victory.” I hate admitting that for anyone, but I just looked at these first two laps, and like – I have to improve myself. It’s very inspiring.
Spieth knows that he will have to do something special to catch Scheffler tomorrow in the village of Muirfield. But even if he does not do it, this week in Dublin, Ohio, was the biggest week of the great return of Spieth to date.
Asked about his level of confidence, Spieth said he was currently located seven out of 10, which is the highest he has been since his return from surgery.
But the arrow immediately points to Spieth, who is delighted to go back to work on Sunday and try to track down the best player in the game.
“I know how to do it at a 10 and it’s just more work,” said Spieth. “That’s more what I do.”
