The heartbreaking death and the betrayal of the family of Kevin Boyd Sr.

Kevin Boyd Sr. was very respected in Lake Orion, Michigan, both as a loving father and a flourishing businessman. However, in August 1994, he was murdered in a violent manner who shocked the community.
The murder turned out to be a premeditated crime committed by people very close to him, his ex-wife and his teenage son. When the investigators arrived for the first time on the scene, they assumed that it was a burglary. However, they quickly discovered a calculated plan motivated by emotional and financial motifs, orchestrated by people he knew, as well as others who remained unidentified.
The evidence recorded at the crime scene indicated the use of a baseball bat and a knife by criminals, a flight and alibis fired. It did not take long for a combination of witnesses, withdrawal and physical evidence to produce a frightening conclusion. Kevin Jr., 16 years old at the time, participated in the murder of his father, while his mother, Lynn Boyd, had planned the murder and participated in the murder.

The family of Kevin Boyd Sr. was torn apart by dependence and divorce
Kevin Boyd Sr. was born in 1951 and spent the majority of his life in Berkeley, Michigan. He was one of the seven children and the only son. He married Lynn in 1975 and 1977, they had a son, Kevin Jr.
Lynn and Kevin Sr. developed an alcohol -based product after the success of Kevin Sr.’s tool rental activity, however, according to the oxygen, the fall of Lynn was alcoholism, and Kevin Jr. later said that his two parents were drinking excessively. The marriage finally ended in 1988, when Lynn left Kevin for another woman.
Despite the divorce, Kevin Sr. remained involved in the life of Kevin Jr. however, Kevin Jr. began to present serious behavioral and psychological problems.
As reported by the Free Press Strait, Kevin Jr. had tried to commit suicide, abused alcohol, consumed drugs and fought on the school level, going from one school to another, participating in a total of 10 different schools. He finally abandoned school. Kevin Boyd Sr. and Lynn decided to give Kevin Jr. a last chance of stability by making him live with his father. This decision would ultimately prove to be fatal.
The night of Kevin Boyd Sr. murder
The morning of August 6, 1994, Kevin Jr. was found upset in front of their apartments complex. The police noted during the investigation he seemed relatively calm and took into account. In the nearby apartment, however, Kevin Boyd Sr. was found dead on a tilting chair with a pillow on him, placed in a puddle in the living room.

He had been stabbed more than 20 times and beaten seriously. According to oxygen, an autopsy revealed injuries in the back, chest and face, a trauma blinked with the head, and that there were black paint particles found in his skull, suggesting that a black object in the shape of a bat was used in the murder.
Although the apartment managed to ransacked and two pistols were missing, there was no sign of forced entrance. Kevin Jr. told the police that he had spent the previous night with a girlfriend after a fight with his father and returned to find his dead father. Kevin Jr. suggested that the cannons had probably been stolen.
The investigation underlined Kevin Boyd Sr. family
Lynn originally told the police whom she had stayed at home in her apartment and watched films with her girlfriend, Julie Grain. However, in November 1994, Grain retracted his declaration. She told the detectives that Lynn had left her apartment on the night of the murder and returned a few hours later, admitting that she committed the crime.
Grain said Lynn asked him to lie to the police about his apartment. The detectives then recovered one of Kevin SR’s weapons after Lynn would have asked a friend to dispose. Grain also admitted that she had led Kevin Jr. to see her mother in a Burger king that evening. Lynn finally admitted to having killed Kevin Sr. but said that the grain was responsible for stabs.


Police did not think that Julie was the real accomplice of the murder and thought it was Kevin Jr. when the police confronted Kevin Jr. in evidence, he admitted everything.
As oxygen reported, when asked who could commit such a crime, Kevin Jr. replied:
“You look at him.
He admitted having repeatedly stabbed his father after Lynn hit him over his head with a bat.
Trials and conviction of Kevin Boyd Sr. murderer
Lynn and Kevin Jr. were both accused of first degree murder and were tried separately in 1996. Kevin Jr. was tried as an adult. The prosecutors argued that the murder was motivated by the desire to perceive the $ 500,000 life insurance policy from Kevin SR. According to the Associated Press (via oxygen), the two were sentenced and sentenced to perpetuity without the possibility of parole.
However, a decision of the United States Supreme Court of 2012 against compulsory perpetuations without parole for minors opened the door to hearings.
Kevin Jr. was sentenced in 2019 to 25 years old and was released in parole in January 2020, as the Oakland Press reported. Lynn Boyd is still imprisoned at the Correctional Center for Women Huron Valley.
