The latest original animated function of Pixar “Gatto” Will Meow in the summer of 2027.
The new film, which is from the director of “Luca” Enrico Casarosa, follows a black cat named Nero as it prowls in the city flowed by Venice. He is indebted to a local criminal cat and forms an unlikely link with a human girl. In addition, he really likes music.
Pixar chief, Pete Doctor, was on site at the Annecy International Animation Festival to show some Nero pencil tests, a Scraggly black cat wedged in a superstitious city where everyone hates him. He is both Scrappy and adorable, adding to the emblematic pixar cat range, including SOX (from “Lightyear”), Dragon (“Toy Story 5”), Machiavelli (from “Luca”) and many others.
And what was even more impressive is when Doctor showed film test images. Instead of looking like a typical pixar film, he embraces an illustrative and pictorial look, returning to all the classic paintings that were inspired by the partially submerged city of Venice. When the test images ran, the public was impressed. It was not like anything at Pixar – or any other animation studio – but nevertheless conforms to their line of masterpieces which serves as an envelope. This seems to be another technological feat which is also a really beautiful original – adorable, exciting and a little frightening.
“Gatto” arrived in the summer of 2027. And right now, it seems really far.
