The ‘Oldboy’ scribe ‘established Disney + Korean Crime Series’ Gold Land’

Disney + A Greenlit “Gold Land”, a Korean series of an original criminal thriller written by Hwang Jo-Yoon, the scriptwriter acclaimed behind “Oldboy” by Park Chan-Wook.

Hwang Jo-Yoon, who wrote the 2003 “Oldboy” vengeance thriller as well as “crawling” and “memory of a murderer”, made his streaming debut with the project.

Park Bo-Young (“Light Shop”) and Kim Sung-Cheol (“No Way Out: The Roulette”) will be at the top of the quick series on smuggling, loan sharks and the exhaust of its past.

“Gold Land” follows Heeju, a woman from a distant city who accidentally enters possession of golden bars of a contraband ring. Finding herself in a van full of gold and pursued by dangerous criminals, Heeju heads for the only place where she has sworn not to come back.

Park Bo-Young plays the role of Kim Heeju, a desperate determined woman to escape her past, while Kim Sung-Cheol plays Jang Wook (nicknamed “Woogy”), a member of the criminal organization Hunting Heju who grew up in his neighborhood. The series is led by Kim Sung-Hoon, whose credits include “Chief Detective 1958” and “Confidential Assignment”.

The ad comes as Disney + widens its list of Korean content. The streamer has also revealed plans for “illusion” (working title), on a mourning vampire; “Low life”, according to the degenerate backstabbing in search of a treasure that changes life; And “Tempest”, on a diplomat and a special agent discovering the truth behind an attack threatening the stability of the Korean peninsula.

The original Disney + Korean Slate this year includes success “Unmasked”, “Hyper Knife” and “Nine Puzzles”, which has become the most visible Korean title of the platform in the world in 2025, only nine after its beginnings on May 21.
