The numbers, the records and the silverware

Pep Guardiola enjoyed his 1,000th match as manager, with his Manchester City side securing a hugely impressive 3-0 victory over reigning champions Liverpool yesterday.
It was a fitting way to reach the milestone for the most successful coach of his generation.
Guardiola’s influence extends beyond silverware, however. You only have to watch a lower league game in England to see how teams attempt to play from the back and implement a style of play that Guardiola may not have imagined but has certainly used with huge success.
He started at Barcelona B before taking charge at Camp Nou in 2008. He joined Bayern Munich in 2013 before joining City in 2016.
Here, we break down Guardiola’s 1000 games into numbers:

Barcelona B was the foundation – Guardiola
Speaking after the win against Liverpool, Guardiola was asked about his achievement.
He told BBC MOTD: “I just want to say thank you to the players and the backroom staff for giving me this gift. Proud to do it here in Manchester with my city.
“Now rest and come back with energy.
“I think my time at Barcelona B is the basis for a lot of things. Realizing that I was able to do it and learn a lot.
“I will never forget the guys in that first season. For me it was so special to play 1,000 games in front of my family and especially against Liverpool. I have huge respect for this club.”
