The new French Prime Minister Lecornu faces the threat of censorship on the first day in the national demonstrations

PARIS (AP) – The newly appointed French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu faced the threat of a vote without confidence the first day he took office, in the midst of generalized demonstrations across France on Wednesday.

Lecornu, who replaced his predecessor François Bayrou to become the fourth French Prime Minister of France barely a year, is committed to consulting all political forces and unions before training his cabinet.

But his appointment was greeted by the skepticism of the political rivals of the French president Macron. It also came then that thousands of demonstrators gathered through France for a day of action on a national scale against Macron’s policies under the slogan “All block”.

The far left party, France, a Powed announced on Wednesday that it would subject a request for censorship against the former Minister of Defense if the next government did not call a vote of trust when parliamentary work resumes next month. The legislators overthrew Bayrou and his government in a vote with confidence on Monday, opening a new political crisis for the second European economy.

French policy has been disarray since Macron called the Snap elections last year which produced a deeply fragmented legislature. The far right and left legislators hold more than 320 seats in the National Assembly, while centrists and allied conservatives hold 210.

Lecornu, a close ally of Macron, is confronted with the task of resolving the budgetary difficulties of France, he does not have a majority to support him and will have to find compromises to stay in power.

The socialists and the Greens expressed their disappointment to the appointment of Lecornu, and Marine Le Pen, the far -right leader whose national party of Rally leads the opinion polls, made fun of his appointment. She suggested that this decision would end with another failure for Macron, who appointed seven prime ministers since her elected official in 2017.

“The president takes the final blow of macronism, rooted with his small circle of loyalists,” said Le Pen, predicting that Macron would soon be forced to call new elections to the SNAP to break the dead end.

After meeting his predecessor as he took office, Lecornu said he wanted to tell the “French that we will get there”.

“We will also have to change, certainly be more creative, sometimes more technical, more serious in the way we work with the opposition parties,” said Lecornu after a traditional transfer ceremony. “We will need important ruptures (with the past). And not only in good shape, not only in the method, but also in substance.”

The drafting of a budget will be an absolute priority for Lecornu, and normally a new Prime Minister would form the new government before negotiating national spending in Parliament. However, Macron asked Lecornu to consult all the political parties in Parliament first to try to agree on a budget before constituting his team.
