The new development adds hundreds of affordable housing in Halawa

Honolulu (Hawaiinewsnow) – After a two -year construction period, a new development of affordable housing is now open in Halawa.
A blessing and a large opening took place on Friday at the Naulu apartments on Kalaloa Street.
The 25 -storey building overlooking Pearl Harbor has 302 studio units, one, two and four bedrooms reserved for households earning between 30 and 60% of the region’s median income.
“It is such a blessing for me and my family, because the size of our family and the cost of rentals in Hawaii are so high,” said Robert Lindsey, a resident.
The rents, including public services, range from $ 704 for a studio for individuals at the level of $ 2404 for a unit of four bedrooms for those of the friend of 60%, on the basis of the US Housing and Urban Development 2024 directives.
Those responsible say it is the greatest low -income housing tax credit Project built in Hawaii in the past 15 years.
“Naulu apartments are a brilliant example of the property that can be accomplished when the private sector, the state government and the city government meet for a common goal,” Governor Josh Green said of the $ 168 million project.
As a condition for financing the government, rents will remain affordable for low -income households for at least 61 years.
The developer, Pacific Development Group, has in charge of local artists to paint several murals on the property. Gavin Murai, who lives in the region, has created an abstract two -story work in soft and blue shades near the elevator bank.
Murai said about his inspiration: “Every day, when I lead to put my daughter to put my daughter, I look towards the valley and I see the clouds driving on the koolaus, which has a soothing misty effect.”
