The security of the army Larry Pickett Jr. and his father were announced for saving a man after a car accident just before the vehicle was fraying flames near the US military academy on Sunday.
The video taken by the sister of the player Lauren showed that the father and the son withdrew the injured man from the driver’s seat and transported him to the other side of the street in the county of Orange of New York.
“Right after midnight, I looked with admiration my son, Larry Pickett Jr., run to a fire vehicle, ignoring the flared power lines that crack,” wrote Pickett Sr. in an article on Facebook. “With immense courage, he put a man in security, saving him from an ardent fate.”
“I was just thinking that I was grateful for having come out, honestly,” said Pickett Jr. on a video credited to his father. “Because I really don’t think someone else … because when we stopped, there was already someone standing there. But they saw the electric wire and I don’t think they wanted to go get him.”
The account of the American military academy on X, as well as the head coach of the army Jeff Monken and the sports director Tom Theodorakis, confirmed the involvement of the young Pickett and congratulated him for having jumped into the action.
“Larry’s heroic actions embody everything we strive to instill in our cadets athletes – courage, altruism and the desire to put the others before them,” wrote Monken. “At the moment critical, he did not think of himself, only to help another person in need. We are incredibly proud of Larry for the way he represented his family, our brotherhood of the army and the values of West Point.”
Sophomore, Pickett played in his first game for the army on Friday against FCS Tarleton State and his family was in town to see his debut. He made a tackle in the defeat of 30-27 with double extension.
