The losses provided against natural dangers in Germany remained below the average levels of previous years in the first half of 2025, according to the German Insurance Association (GDV).

“With around 1 billion euros [$1.2 billion]Damage insured against storms, hail, strong precipitation and floods were lower than expected according to long -term averages, “said GDV director of GDV, Jörg Asmussen, in a press release.

Real estate insurance complaints represented around 500 million euros in storms, hail and lightning, with 100 million euros caused by dangers such as floods and heavy rains, GDV reported. Automobile insurance complaints added 350 million euros. According to the GDV, statistics also cover losses in household content, businesses and industrial operations.

For the future, the GDV said that if losses in the second half remain on average, 2025 could be an average year for complaints on natural risks.

If serious storms do not occur in autumn and winter, total losses for the year should reach around 4.5 billion euros, said Asmussen, below the 6.3 billion euros expected for a typical year – although still at a high level.

He added that even if the first half of 2025 was lower than the average, the long -term trend shows a clear increase in extreme weather events and associated losses.
