The Los Angeles Dodgers underwent their worst defeat at the Dodger stadium on Friday evening when they were sent 18-1 by the Astros of Houston.
The last time the Dodgers lost by 17 points at home was on July 3, 1947, when Brooklyn, where the franchise was based until 1958, was at the end of a 19-2 victory by the New York Giants at Ebbets Field, according to ESPN.
“It was the one you want to rinse as soon as possible,” said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts after Friday’s match, the first in a series of three games between two division chiefs. “I don’t think there have been many positive points this night.”
Jose Altuve exploded for Astros, with three strokes – two of which were circuits – two steps, four points and five points produced. The Venezuelan was constantly hué by the crowd of the Dodger Stadium after being part of the Houston team who beat Los Angeles in the 2017 World Series, after which it appeared that the Astros had stolen signs.
Leaving the Dodgers, Ben Casparius, had trouble in his three sleeves on the mound, granting six points on nine safe, including three Homers.
“I don’t think Ben was good tonight. It seemed to be on everything he threw there,” said Roberts.
“In the end, he must better execute. There may have been 60 throws this evening, and probably only a handful executed where he wanted them to be.”
The night took the worst possible start for the Dodgers when Isaac Paredes went deeply on the very first throw, but it was only in the sixth round that things have become uncontrollable.
The Astros scored 10 points in this round, seven of which came from the Grand Colem of Victor Caratini and the Home Run of three points from Altuve, representing the most points granted in a single round by the Dodgers this century, by AP. Los Angeles granted 11 during the third round of a 12-5 defeat against the Cardinals of Saint-Louis in April 1999.

Elsewhere in MLB, it was another story for the Cubs of Chicago, which succeeded in a franchise record eight circuits – including three by Michael Busch – in an 11-3 victory against the cardinals at Wrigley Field.
In Seattle, Cal Raleigh continued his impressive hot sequence with two other circuits in the 6-0 Victory of Mariners against the Pittsburgh Pirates, to bring his total for the season to 35 – binding the franchise record of Ken Griffey Jr. for the circuits before the stars break.
