The lawyers of R. Kelly file an immediate release of the guard, alleging that the officials asked the detainee to kill him
R. Kelly’s legal team has filed an emergency request requesting their immediate release from federal care to home detention, saying that his life is in danger and accuses the government of misconduct.
In Tuesday’s file, examined by VarietyKelly lawyers claim that they have explicit evidence that officials asked an inmate to assassinate him when they were in detention in a federal penitentiary in North Carolina, where he was serving a sentence of 30 years.

His lawyer provided a statement under the oath of Mikeal Glenn Stine, a terminal detainee, who said that officials offered him freedom in his last days in exchange for Kelly’s murder. Stine told him that he was told that Kelly and his lawyers planned to exhibit prejudicial information, because the file alleges that the managers violated the lawyer-client privilege by intercepting personal correspondence. Stine said that officials told him that he would be accused of Kelly’s murder, but that evidence would be poorly managed and that there would be no conviction.
Stine, a chief of the Aryan brotherhood, arrived at the unit of Kelly last March, and although he was ready to kill him, he had a change of heart and rather told Kelly that the managers of the prison office ordered him to proceed to his murder. Kelly’s lawyer alleges that in June, they learned a second member of the Aryan brotherhood who was led by officials to kill Kelly and Stine. They claim that Kelly is in danger because he remains in police custody with other members of the fraternity.
“The threat to Mr. Kelly’s life continues every day that no action is taken,” reads the file. “More members of the AB accumulate in his establishment. More than one other has already been approached to carry out his murder. One of them will surely do what Mr. Stine did not, thus bury the truth about what happened in this case with Robert Kelly.”
Kelly’s lawyer, Beau B. Brindley, asks the judge to release him from home detention on temporary leave. Variety Contacted the American lawyer’s office in Chicago to comment.
The singer, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, was initially found guilty of nine reduction counts to replace in September 2021. He was accused of violating the Law of Mann and Racket which involved the sexual exploitation of children. Last June, he was sentenced to 30 years in prison. In February 2023, Kelly was sentenced separately to 20 years in prison for sexual crimes for children, the judge judging that everything except a year would be purged simultaneously with his sentence of previous 30 years.
Last February, a court of appeal confirmed the convictions of racketeering and sexual trafficking in Kelly as well as his 30 -year prison sentence. The court rejected its allegations according to which proof of the trial was inadequate and that the trial judge rendered inappropriate decisions.
