CJ FoDrey scored on a head of a corner kick in the 82nd minute to give Austin FC a 2-1 victory against the host sporting Kansas City on Sunday evening.

The victory was the first of Austin in 13 games this season after conceding the opening goal.

Owen Wolff scored Austin’s first goal in the 37th minute and helped the winner of Flodrey. Dejan Jveljic nailed a penalty kick in the 16th minute to give Sporting Kansas City an early advantage.

Austin (11-9-8, 41 points), standing in sixth in the Western Conference, saw SKC (7-16-6, 27 points) Check most of the second half before taking the late advance.

Sporting Kansas City, 13th to the west, has entered the match with 21 goals in the last 30 minutes of games, third in MLS. Although they had many opportunities to take lead or bind it late, they could not convert.

Austin almost took an advance from 2-1 to the 73rd minute when the head of FoDrey struck a crossing hit the post on the left. This sparked Austin’s attack momentarily, until Erik Thommy from SKC entered the game to replace Shapi Suleymanov in the 76th minute. It was Thommy’s first action since July 4 due to a hip injury.

Sporting had a gold chance in the 79th minute when the goalkeeper of Austin Brad Stover had to make a backup of a dive of a rocket Daniel Salloi.

Shortly after the backing of Stover, goalkeeper SKC John Pulskamp had to dive deviation at the other end on the shot from Robert Taylor from the center of the box.

This resulted in the first corner of the Austin match, and the head of FoDrey on the Wolff cross gave Austin an advance of 2-1.

Sporting took an early advantage after a Var decision to give a penalty on a fault by Nicolas Dubersarsky, who sparked Suleymanov in the box. Jveljic converted the penalty to the 16th minute when Stupover plunged to his right and Jveljic pulled him in the lower right corner.

It was the beginning that Austin was trying to avoid. They had lost nine and pulled three of the first 12 games in conceding it from the first goal of the match.

Austin drew in the 37th minute. Guilherme Biro launched a pass at 20 meters behind the midfielder that Wolff collected beautifully just outside the 18 yards box. He allowed the defense of SKC to pass in front of him, and then on the foot on the left, quickly approaching Pulskamp for the purpose of the allocation.

SKC had an advantage of 12-9 shots, and each team finished with four shots on goal. Stuver succeeded in three stops and Pulskamp made two.
