Apple and Major League Baseball announced that certain parts of the broadcast of Friday game between the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers in Fenway Park in Boston will be filmed on an iPhone 17 Pro and Broadcast Live.
In addition to the usual camera platforms, there will be four iPhone 17 pros in Fenway Park, including inside the green monster in the left field. In addition, certain iPhones will be inside the Pirogue of Red Sox, and another will move in the stadium to capture the atmosphere inside the park. MLB says that iPhones will be “used to capture base of the ball throughout the night, including the practice of striker, players’ intros, pirogue plans, fans atmosphere and live gameplay between Boston and Detroit”.
During the September 14 match between the Giants of Los Angeles and San Francisco, Apple tested the iPhone 17 Pro by capturing images of Clayton Kershaw and Shohei Ohtani but did not broadcast the images live.
Tonight’s match has huge implications for both teams. The Boston Red Sox are at the edge of a place in the playoff series, needing a single victory to ensure a niche, while the Detroit Tigers cling to the central division of the American League after a historic September collapse which has annihilated a 9.5 game lead on the Cleveland guards.
