The iPhone 17 pro functionality I want the most? More colors beyond monochrome and metal

Although we can all agree that what is inside an iPhone is much more important than the exterior, I always care about a ton of the appearance of my smartphone. So, with all the rumors swirling on the next iPhone 17, the one that caught my attention had nothing to do with specifications or features. He simply declared that the iPhone 17 Pro could adopt colors inspired by the IOS 26 liquid glass overhaul – which, based on descriptions, may resemble certain older Samsung phone colors. And I started dreaming of a world where the best Apple phones are as fun as their lower -level brothers and sisters.

For years, Apple has divided its phones into two levels: “regular” iPhones and pro models. The former offer lower specifications and prices with more daring colors, while the latter are more expensive models with more moderate tones. The iPhone Pro and Pro Max generally come in black, white and silver gray – as well as a more trendy color that changes each year. To be the best that Apple offers, their colors leave desire, in my opinion.

But the iPhone 16 Pro is delivered in Desert Titanium, which is in gold on any other name. The previous year, the iPhone 15 Pro was available in a gray blue (which I remember well, if not affectionately, so as not to match my Bond Blue Vintage case). In 2022, the iPhone 14 Pro left White for gold and added a pastel purple alongside its black and silver shades – and so on.

Some people drop more than $ 1000 on an inflated iPhone pro want their device to look slender, not superlative – the elite on effervescent, cultivated instead of colored. I am not that person. When I saw the iPhone 5C, I did not bother the plastic case in the air – the vibrant colors broke out. I do not think that the purchase of a premium phone should condemn you to a purgatory of gradation shades.

And yes, there are those of you who do not care what your phone looks like, because its colors will only see the light of the day before the handset is drunk in its case to survive the inevitable rebounds and falls of life. It’s completely valid too.

So, when I heard that there is a potential liquid glass color to come on the iPhone 17 Pro that we expect to launch (as we do each year) in September, I have become temporarily excited. But there is a great warning: rumor, from Leaker Instant Digital, based in Weibo, did not include a photo or any imagery of these potential beginnings. Instead, the flight suggested that (as translated by Google Translate), the color of the iPhone 17 Pro should be white, but with a finish that changes or changes subtly in different lighting conditions.

Where are my prismatic phone colors?

Apple introduced its liquid glass update during the WWDC 2025 in June, revealing a new design strategy for the iPhone 17 Pro Line which emphasizes translucence and rounded icons to give iOS 26 a new user interface lifting. Application manufacturers responded to the developer’s first beta with disdain, criticizing the lack of distracting and disorienting visual separation from the design – the icons in the superposition of the control center were difficult to see. Fortunately, subsequent adjustments have improved the overhaul before the recently launched IOS 26 public version.

But how an iPhone’s Liquid Glass design is color is a little more difficult to understand. The assertion of Digital Instant according to which it will be white but will move with the light offers indices – and this could end up resembling beloved colors of smartphones of yesteryear.

For example, the Samsung Galaxy S10 2018 came in a rather recovery white color that sparkled when you have turned it in the light, clearing a pearls of roses, violets and subtle blues. Look how he compares himself to the white ceramic shade of standard cream in this video of Sakitech.

Compare this to the more severely prismatic “aura glow” color in the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 of the same year, which reflected all the colors of the rainbow. This explosive choice was certainly catchy, but I suppose it is too flamboyant for the apple. (And the beautiful glass back could certainly not resist a fall.)

Admittedly, Apple tried subtly sparkling colors – the iPhone 13 and 13 Mini came in midnight, a black so deep that it was almost blue, reflecting notes of hidden hues below. Iphones of the same year had another color, Starlight, which was essentially the same effect in white.

But by taking a closer look at the iPhone Pro Conceptions of past years, I doubt that we will see just as lively than these Samsung shades – not only because Apple has avoided vibrant colors, but also because in recent years, it has used a frosted rear glass that blurs and sparkle the color under. What we end up obtaining a liquid glass color, if necessary, is very uncertain given the Apple design priorities.

But I hope, just once, pro phones can show a little more of their belongings. And who knows – it may be what will finally sell us on the next overhaul of liquid glass which should change the appearance and the feeling of iOS, like that.
