However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) quickly said that the error was purely technical and that the classification has since been corrected. The world director organ confirmed that the two players retained their original positions in the ranking and remain active in ODI format.
A spokesperson for the ICC was quoted by the Hindustan Times: “There has been an error in our classification tables today, but it was corrected.”

A classification of ICC ODI strikers updated shows that Rohit Sharma has returned to its number two position with 756 rating points, while Shubman Gill remained the number one striker in the world with 784 points.
