The Harry Potter television series must rectify these JK Rowling errors

In case you have not heard, a “Harry Potter” television program arrives in HBO and the controversial creator JK Rowling is involved. Rowling’s anti-trans comments have thrown a shadow of the size of a denial on the next project, which is one of the main reasons why the series could be for flop. That said, the author’s polarizing personal positions are not the only thing that could potentially damage the success of the series, because it is known to make unwanted creative changes to the “Harry Potter” tradition over the years.
Since the literary adventures of the boy’s assistant ended, Rowling has retired many elements of the stories – generally on social networks – and killed part of the magic. The additions of post-publication of the writer to the tradition of the world of wizards encompass everything, from changes to the stories of characters to revelations on the poop … and let’s simply say that the updates have not been universally rented. If Rowling insists on the implementation of these ideas in the HBO series, it can be more devastating than Voldemort unloading a curse “Avada Kedavra” on an unfortunate victim, and the planned race of the show could be interrupted without ceremonies.
On the other hand, the television series is an opportunity for Rowling to repair some of these errors and restore the magic that made “Harry Potter” so attractive to millions of people in the first place. In this spirit, let us examine some of the worst examples of the author’s retication and posture how HBO adaptation can clarify things.
Some of the changes of JK Rowling have damaged the Harry Potter tradition
JK Rowling’s retigning is undoubtedly a reaction to the eternal obsession of fans for everything related to “Harry Potter”. People want to know more about the world of wizards, and although the incalculable anecdotes are interesting, some of the author’s post-publication revelations appear to be forced and not sincere. For example, do we really need to know that Magic Folk once used their capacities to eliminate their poop before kissing Muggle toilet systems? Probably not, but it is not even the most useless – or confusing – the information that Rowling shared.
Let’s talk about the decision to make Nagini a human of Asian origin before he became the snake for petdemort pets. “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” – which takes place 70 years before the main story of “Harry Potter” – explores this subject, and Rowling put in the work on social networks to justify it, revealing that the character is a cursed, that is to say a cursed person to turn into a creature. There is nothing intrinsically badly to give Nagini a background, but the fact that it is not even hinted in the books “Harry Potter” makes him redundant. Not only that, but the retication of Nagini was also criticized as a superficial attempt to force diversity in a franchise that lacks it – and this is not the only example of this specific problem at stake.
Rowling said that Hermione’s breed was not explicitly mentioned in the books, even if a passage from “Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban” specifically describes his face as white – and the now famous representation of Emma Watson of the character has further strengthened this notion. The author also made a big problem of Dumbledore being gay, which is not mentioned at all in books. The representation is a good thing, but confirm it on X (formerly known as Twitter) for years later – as opposed to transmitting it on the page – makes it devoid of meaning and confusing. (The film “Fantastic Beasts” did not do much either with this idea.) So how can the next show understand these changes?
How the Harry Potter HBO series can clarify things
JK Rowling’s attempts for Retcon “Harry Potter” did not land as she hoped. There is an argument to argue that his updates are a reaction to the refusal of the Fandom to let the story end, but the author’s revelations are not consistent with his original narration. Fortunately for her, the HBO series is an opportunity to significantly integrate some of these ideas into a convincing story (while burying useless).
The casting of Arabella Stanton as Hermione in the “Harry Potter” adaptation of HBO proves that the creators adopt some of the changes in Rowling. By putting a young mixed breed artist in the role, Hermione can now be established as a person of color – because Rowling has supposed to be – and eliminate persistent doubts about his identity. Elsewhere, the spectacle must legitimize the idea that Nagini was once human or, better still, ignore him. The negative reaction to the character’s retigning suggests that fans preferred it as a simple snake, as opposed to an Asian woman who has become the pet of the purist assistant of race. But if it should be a maledictus, the HBO series should remedy it in a convincing and justified way.
Most Rowling’s Retconneed stories are not necessary, but others demonstrate a lack of attention to detail. Let us take, for example, the appearances of Professor McGonagall (Fiona Glasccott) in the franchise “Fantastic Beasts”, where she is shown by teaching at Hogwarts in the 1920s and 30s. However, the Pottermore website – which is the canon approved by Rowling – reveals that the character was born in 1935, so how could she be adult during the “fantastic animal”? However, Rowling is known to update the teacher’s background from time to time, and a game deserves to be explored in the HBO series.
One of the JK Rowling changes deserves to be preserved
Let’s face it: Minerva McGonagall prospered when we did not know much about it. The original books of “Harry Potter” – and their adaptations of subsequent films – depict it as a strong and unadorned teacher who simply commands respect by being herself. “Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix”, which takes place in the mid-1990s, also reveals that she has been teaching at Hogwarts for 39 years at that time, which contradicts the “Fantastic Beasts” chronology above. The next television series should stick to the original level, but it can also implement some of the original Rowling additions to the McGonagall tradition to eliminate the stench of its confusing appearances in the prequel films.
Before “Rowling wrote an informative biography on Pottermore in which the future chief of Gryffindor wrote an informative biography on which the future chief of Gryffindor was engaged in a Muggle farmer, but finally chose a life of magic at the expense of romance. It is a tragic story in some respects, but the decision of McGonagall has also reinforced his agency and his ambition. Late, she found love with a member of the Ministry of Magic – only to die after being bitten by a venomous tentacle.
The HBO series does not have to dive into the original story of McGonagall in detail, but to allude to it should be sufficient to reject the confusing disorder which is its journey in “Fantastic Beasts”, while adding more depth to an otherwise mysterious character. At the very least, this would bring a certain coherence to the calendar of the sorcerer world – and put an end to the debates of fans on McGonagall using a time turner to teach at Hogwarts even before his birth. Rowling has since changed the teacher’s biography to reflect his appearances in “Fantastic Beasts”, despite the books that contradict him, so maybe it’s time to come back to the original idea and leave it there.
HBO’s “Harry Potter” should be presented on HBO and HBO Max in 2027.
