The truth is often foreign that fiction, but when fiction imitates the real world in (more or less) in real time, it seems much more surreal. Even if it was not immediately obvious., Viewers had a taste of this after Hacks“ Season 4 ended, with the surprising of Stephen Colbert Late at night Cancellation by somewhat reflecting the impromptu outing of the queen of the fictitious night Deborah Vance somewhat. Now the co-creator Paul W. Downs has weighed on wild coincidence.
The news broke out in mid-July that CBS canceled The late show As part of obtaining the merger of Paramount with finalized Skydance, with a date of end of May 2026 for the end of the evening. Downs, who also embodies Vance manager, Jimmy, explained in detail the parallels between the two hosts started with Deadline. He expressed how strange the similarities are, given how things proved to be for the fate of the fictitious actor, and that Colbert having a similar shock not even two months later was just weird. The actor-writer said:
What is happening at the end of the evening happened in the show. Deborah has left the show and in the world of hacks, the franchise ended, so it’s very weird that it happens with Stephen Colbert at the moment because a lot of our season [four] was built until this moment.
Fictive or not, lightning striking twice for the end of the night during a summer is really wild. After a premiere of season 4 almost perfect of HacksThe highs and the non-stops of Ava and Deborah (and the false shot of the chief writer Ava) perfectly have the culmination of the night of Vance perfectly. The season of 10 episodes led to the realization of the star she needed her writer in mind more than the Gimmicky bits (sorry to dance mom).
According to statements, a major reasoning for the end of Colbert revolved around the financial failures of the program, at least from the point of view of the network, even if his colleague Jimmy Kimmel called BS on this idea. The pure and simple parallel for the Hacks The cast and the crew are frightening, the Downs actions. In parallel with his feelings, he has piled up that the coming season will be Deborah in advance and beyond the late evening drama saying:
[It’s a] Surrealist moment for us, in the light of what is going on. A large part of our season 5 will be of its kind to reinvent itself and rewrite its inheritance after being blamed for the death of the end of the night.
Again, the coincidence is so much to wrap your head. It will be interesting to see what awaits us for Colbert and Vance. As for the future of fictitious celebrity, I fully trust Downs and its co-creators Lucia Aniello and the vision of Jen Stattsky, and their spiritual writing, comments from industry. As for the 61 -year -old man, he dreamed of what is happening after May 2026.
We will just have to wait and see if the Hacks The writer Room will surprisingly reflect Stephen Colbert and CBS Brouhaha de Late Night in season 5. Whatever his own personal feelings, the whole has just been surreal to see playing. Fortunately, Colbert seems to be fine, the wise spectator, following the news, because the notes even increase with a brief interruption.
