Fluminense vs Borussia Dortmund: overview, predictions and alignments

After a strong end in the Bundesliga season, Borussia Dortmund enters the high -level club World Cup and their tournament begins against Fluminense on Tuesday.
Their journey to the UEFA Champions League 2024, their distinct cracks in the context of Edin Terzić, and the hiring of his assistant, Nori Sahin, turned out to be a disaster. It took an impressive work of salvation of Niko Kovač to save the Dortmund campaign, while they finished strongly in 2024-2025 and slipped into the top four of the Bundesliga on the last day.
BVB qualified for this tournament via the UEFA ranking path, and they will aim to bear the momentum of their strong national final in their summer campaign. Kovač’s men are the overwhelming favorites to win the F group.
After having fought against relegation last year, 2023 Copa Libertadores Winners Fluminense is again up with Renato Portaluppi at the helm. They are up to sixth place in series A and are only four points at the drift of Rivaux Amers Flamengo at the top.
While a deep race in the United States is apparently beyond them, Brazilians will seek to make an impression during the group phase.

Thiago Silva, one of the best defenders of his generation, will lead Fluminense Defense to the tournament. His main task is to protect the goal of the 44 -year -old goalkeeper, Fábio, who is closer to Peter Shilton’s record of 1,390 professional games played. The Brazilian is 1,374, so he will not break the record for this tournament.
Colombian Jhon Arias is their attacker star, and he will probably derive from one of the sides to hurt Dortmund in the center.
On the injury front, Agustin Canobbio, Keno and Facundo Bernal are doubts, while Otávio is absent for the season due to an Achilles tear. Yeferson Sotelo could miss a large part of the tournament with muscle injury.
Fluminense predicts programming against Dortmund (4-3-3): Fabio; Xavier, Silva, Freytes, Renênê; Nonato, Santos, Martinelli; Arias, Everaldo, Serna.
Salih Özcan suffered an injury to the hamstrings during the international break in June and did not trace with the Dortmund team across the Atlantic.
Emre Can and the long -term absent Nico Schlotterbeck, who would probably have raised many transfer interests this summer, are not in the Kovač team.
The new signature Jobe Bellingham was included, and he is in the running to make his debut for the club Tuesday in New Jersey. English is a flexible midfielder operator who could operate in the pivot of the Dortmund midfielder, or in a supporting role for the main elimination Serhou Guirassy.
Dortmund PRESSIIAL lineage vs. Fluminense (3-4-2-1): Kobel; Süle, Anton, Bensebaini; Ryerson, Sabitzer, Nmecha, Svensson; Brandt, Adeyemi; Guirassy.
Fluminense should be inspired by the projection of Palmeiras against Porto on Sunday evening, with their unhappy Brazilian rivals not to take the three points of their first tournament round.
South American teams will not benefit from the form of mid-season against Europeans potentially by signaling, although Fluminense has a considerable quality gap to fill here. However, if they are able to put Dortmund in an uncomfortable position by forcing them to have more balls than they wish, then it could be a delicate game for the Germans.
Much of their success under Kovač was based on disciplined defense and effective counterattacks. Their game model will be put to the test in New Jersey, and it will be interesting to see how they are accompanied by a formal opponent.
Prediction: Fluminense 1–2 Borussia Dortmund
