USC Football against Illinois Updates live: Illini score after the turnover of Trojans

USC vs Illinois: Lincoln Riley shares his expectations for the Jayden Maiava quarter

During four games this season, Jayden Maiava has done just about everything he could to dispel the persistent doubts about him as a quarter of the USC.

Maiava is on average 12.7 yards per pass this season, greater than any other quarter of university football. Its percentage of completion has increased by more than 11 points since last season (to 70.8%). He launched nine affected passers -by, more added four to the ground, and has not yet returned the ball after launching nine choices during the same number of departures in 2024.

Admittedly, during the departure 4-0 of the Trojans, Maiava has not yet faced a pass defense which ranks in the top 100 of the yards by the pass authorized by attempt. He or nobody of the USC offensive also faced a lot of adversity. Trojan horses have scored more than 52 points per game and won their first four with an average margin of 32.

But the level of competition is increasing this week. Each of the next three opponents of the USC is classified in the top 25, while three of its next four games arrive on the road, from Saturday with the Illinois No. 23, which was classified in the Top 10 before being beaten by Indiana last weekend.

If the USC has the hope of making the play football playoffs, it will need Maiava to prove that its fast start in September was not a stroke of luck. USC coach Lincoln Riley does not want Maiava to change a lot compared to his first four weeks.

“Continue to do what you do,” said Riley.
