The former forest boss Cooper takes Brondby Job

Former Nottingham forest director Steve Cooper says that he wants “a team that wins trophies” after returning to management with the Danish side Brondby.

Cooper is back in management for the first time since leaving Leicester last November.

“I want exactly what you want: a team that wins trophies and returns to the Danish football top,” said Cooper in an open letter to Brondby fans on the club’s website.

“I admire the values that the club has. Its roots in its local community. The dedication of supporters who follow him.

“I am ambitious to win and see what this club can do when it is its best.

“The property of Brondby feels the same thing and their vision of the club is an important part of the reason why I am here. I reach the challenge and I know that the players will do it too.

“I think that with us all together – players, personal and fans – we will be a great strength.”

Cooper will be in charge for Saturday’s derby against FC Copenhagen.

Cooper brought back Forest in the Premier League after more than 20 years, but was dismissed by the owner Evangelos Marinakis in December 2023 and replaced by Nuno Espirito Santo before not spending only five months in Leicester.

Nuno was dismissed on Monday evening.

Brondby football director Benjamin Schmedes said on the club website: “Steve is a rare combination of youth and experience, vision and personality.

“He is a man who can embrace a club like ours and raise both the individual player and the whole club to a new level.”

Brondby, who finished third in last season, is currently fourth in the Danish Superliga – four points behind the FC Copenhagen leaders after seven games.
