Sorokin said in Russian, translated into English:

“There were three players in front of me, and that blocked my vision a lot. I did not see the washer. I only saw it when it stole out of the net, and it plunged on the blue line (to celebrate). That’s all I saw.”

Sorokin added:

“I am probably over-corned. It usually pulls to the left, and I took a slightly incorrect position. ”

An interesting moment that Ilya Sorokin mentioned during the interview was the frustration he felt during the ice ceremony in honor of Ovechkin’s record goal.

According to Ilya Sorokin:

“Yes, there was such a moment (frustration). I read somewhere which, at the beginning, there was a celebration limit, 8 or 14 minutes. When everything happened, there was a strange feeling. The first five minutes – dissatisfaction, then everything was forgotten. Then, we hold for 10 minutes, 20. At the end, all lasted about 25 minutes.”

While Sorokin was happy for the success of his compatriot, he always had a game on which to concentrate. He noted:

“The scoring was 2-1, there were still half a game to play. Well, I went to warm up.”

The Icelanders won the 4-1 game. Marc Gatcomb scored twice and Sorokin made 28 stops. His only imperfection at night was Ovechkin’s goal.

In the end, the final score is without consequences. What history will remember around April 6, 2025 is the record moment of Ovechkin.
