The film Clue has a last end which is impossible to watch today

“Clue” is famous for having three purposes, each being shown in theaters with a different impression of the film – some theaters would even announce the end they showed. In an interview in 2023 with Empire, Tim Curry and director Jonathan Lynn spoke of the physical demand from the monologue that leads to the end of the film: a verbose explanation of the murders in which Wadsworth runs around the manor offering an exhibition at a quick pace. It was enough to ensure that the curry is looking for a doctor for exhaustion.

In this interview, Curry revealed that there was a fourth ending up “indicating” who almost reached the screen. “I ran into the house killing everyone,” recalls Curry.

Indeed, this fourth end is always in the script, which you can find online if you look strong enough. In this document, Wadsworth reveals that he was the real brain. It turns out that he has just broken. He was tired of being a perfectionist. He tried to be a perfect husband, but his wife committed suicide. He tried to be the perfect butler, but ended up killing his boss. He therefore decided to commit the perfect murder and gave himself an audience.

Wadsworth even poisoned all the surviving dinner guests so that they will die after finishing with his monologue. Before being able to lock them inside the manor, the FBI arrives, but Wadsworth distracted them by telling the whole story again. Associated, the cops do not realize that Wadsworth has enclosed them all inside the manor and he fled, stealing a cop of cop and leaving on the horizon.

Of course, it’s “clue”, and no one really gets away with it. The scene ends with Wadsworth hearing the angry grunts of a German shepherd in the back. Cut to credits, picked “Shake, Hochet and Roll”. Although the scene has never been published, it is still in the romanization of the film, and the photos have made their way online – as you can see here. According to the script, it must have been the third end.

So what happened? Well, as Lynn said to Empire, “it was not funny enough. It was not surprising enough. It ended the film on an anti-climax. So I just released it. Three was sufficient.”
