The FDA issues a highest risk warning for the recall of chocolate nationwide

A recall at the national level of chocolate products has been issued in the largest risk warning by the Food and Drug Administration in the United States (FDA).
Weaver Nut Company, Inc., based in Pennsylvania, announced a voluntary recall for specific lots of its semi-sucking non-paids on June 17 due to the possible non-declared presence of milk, a major food allergen.
The FDA subsequently published a class 1 risk classification for recall on July 8.

Why it matters
A class I risk classification represents “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use or exposure to a violating product will result in serious unfavorable consequences for health or death”, according to the FDA.
The recall has been initiated due to the unconceived presence of milk, one of the nine main food allergens as defined in law. The others are eggs, fish, crustacean crustaceans, trees, peanuts, wheat, soy and sesame.
The FDA warned that people allergic or severe milk “run the risk of serious or fatal allergic reaction if they consume affected products”.
Allergic reactions vary in severity of light symptoms, such as hives and swelling of lips, deadly complications, such as anaphylaxis, which may include fatal respiratory problems.
