The conservatives hate the government, but not when it benefits them

For once, a curator is honest about his hatred for the government and support for its destruction – as long as he has no impact him.
“There are government programs that I would like to see abandoned or reduce, in particular those who do not affect me”, but do not touch the programs he Personally depends on: “But those like postal service, yes, we count on them”, Rick Wallace, a retired firefighter in the Rural Nebraska, said The Nebraska examiner.
Of course, they do it. He lives in the kind of place where, if the efficiency or cost savings become the norm, he is completely screwed up.
The local Wallace factor, Roger McDonald, leads nearly 150 miles per day to reach 334 delivery points. This type of road is bleeding from money, and the long -distance and sparse population density is one of the reasons why the American postal service undergoes annual losses. It is also exactly the kind of thing that would disappear under President Donald Trump privatization diagramWhere the non -profitable roads would inevitably be reduced, it doesn’t matter who left.
But the government is not supposed to be profitable. It is supposed to serve the common goodEven when this good is a small outpost in the middle of nowhere.
Liberals have long understood this. We have subsidized rural America – its roads, its telephone lines, its email service and its hospitals – because this is what a common company is done.
But in return, the rural conservatives have demonized the government itself Supports their communities. Worse, they vilified people – US – who supported these subsidies. And now they admit that they only want to finance what affects them.
Well, rural broadband does not affect me. I have fast internet – Support everyone. The dear rural postal network? Do not affect me, why should I pay for this? All this expensive telephone infrastructure? Let it rot. The Ministry of Agriculture? I am not a farmer, I cut everything. Funding from Medicaid for rural hospitals? I have 5 hospitals in 15 minutes. Maintenance of rural roads? Let them collapse. Black pulmonary advantages for coal minors? Is null to be them. Methamphetamine epidemic in rural cities? Let them stand out. None of this affects me, right?
It’s fucking disgusting, right?
This is the difference between the right and the left. The conservatives embark on the suffering of people who do not love them – that’s why they voted for Trump. But the liberals? We would be horrified if someone has seriously made the argument I just had. We believe in a basic social obligation with each other – even when it costs us something. Especially When it costs us something.
Wallace does not care about the programs that do not benefit him directly. But we are supposed to spend everything you need to keep your mail to come 6 days a week? This is not how it works.
The social contract is not an automatic distributor for personal convenience; It is a mutual agreement which links a nation of people together, which says that we are all entering so that no one – no matter where they live – does not rush through the meshes of the net. It is a recognition that government is the tool we use to express collective values, not on individual preferences.
When the Conservatives start to choose and choose the parties of the company that are worth funding solely on their own needs, they are not only selfish. They break the very foundations that maintains this country together.
