The commentator and political advisor had 83

David Gergen, former political analyst and consultant of four American presidents, died. He was 83 years old.

His son, Christopher, confirmed to the New York Times that Gergen died of the dementia of Lewy’s body in his retirement community.

The native of North Carolina was a journalistic force respected for her political experience and his bipartite understanding, after advising Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan of the GOP as well as the Democrat Bill Clinton. He was director of the writing of speeches for Nixon, director of communications for Reagan and Ford and advisor to Clinton.

Gergen made his debut in broadcasting journalism appearing on “McNeil-Lehrer News Hour” by PBS in 1984. There, he worked with Mark Shields. He became the editor -in -chief of “US News & World Report”.

It was a surprise when Gergen joined Clinton in 1993, given his history with the Republican Party. Speaking to PBS at the time, Gergen broken down some of the problems he was brought to solve with the democratic administration.

“A political scholar who served four presidents of the two parties, an adored father and a devoted husband, a senior statesman in every sense of the word, and a tireless educator. But above all, David was a very kind and warm person,” said a spokesperson for CNN on Friday. “Our staff, our contributors and our audience are better informed because of its imposing influence.”

Gergen is survived by his wife Anne, his daunting, his son and her five grandchildren.
