The co-founder of Mastodon and former guitarist dies at 51 years old

Brent Hinds, the co-founder and former main guitarist of the Heavy Metal Mastodon group, has died, The Hollywood Reporter can confirm. He was 51 years old.

Hinds died on Wednesday evening in a motorcycle accident in Atlanta, a representative of the office of the Legalist’s County of Fulton confirmed to THR. According to a police report obtained by Atlanta News First, an SUV “did not give in” to an intersection, which caused the accident.

Hinds’ death occurs only a few months after leaving the group in March this year, the group saying at the time that “we are deeply proud and beyond the recognition of music and history that we have shared and we only wish it success and happiness in its future efforts.”

Hinds co -founded Mastodon 25 years ago alongside Troy Sanders, Bill Kelliher and Brann Dailor, and the group would become one of the most successful metal groups of their generation. Mastodon released eight studio albums with Hinds, from the 2002 album Discount. The group released the most recent album of Tehir Muffled and dark In 2021. The group won six Grammy nominations throughout their careers, as well as a 2018 victory for the best metallic performance for “Sultan’s Curse”.

“We are in an unfathomable state of sadness and sorrow … Last night, Brent Hinds died following a tragic accident,” wrote the group on Instagram on Thursday. “We have a broken heart, shocked and always try to treat the loss of this creative force with whom we have shared so many triumphs, milestones and the creation of music that touched the hearts of so many. Our hearts are with family, friends and Brent fans.
