This weekend, Nottingham Forest made the decision to sack Ange Postecoglou, who had only been in charge for 39 days. The former Tottenham manager was fired minutes after the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea, ending a difficult spell at the City Ground.

Postecoglou became the second forestry director to be sacked this season, after Nuno Espirito Santo. Criticism has been leveled at the way both situations were handled, and this continues today.

Speaking to Football Insider, former footballer Matt Le Tissier gave his reaction on the situation at Forest. Even if he has little sympathy for Postecoglou, he believes that he should have given him more time.

“I think you really have to go back a bit and ask why Nuno was sacked in the first place. Obviously there was a breakdown there, but when you’re looking to replace someone it’s very strange to replace them with someone who is so completely opposed to the last manager given the squad of players he has.

“So that was the first problem in my opinion. Secondly, is 39 days enough for a manager to try to implement a completely different system on a new group of players? It’s not. He’s probably a bit unfortunate, Ange, in the sense that they were also in European football because he just didn’t have any real breaks to work in his team.

“It was game after game every three or four days. So I think it’s a bit harsh, or really harsh actually, to sack a manager after such a short time, especially as I appreciate that Spurs were rubbish in the league last season and he didn’t really focus on that and just wanted to win the Europa League, but fair play to him, he did it.

“He’s a manager who won an important trophy, and yet 39 days later it’s like, see you later, mate, you’re gone. But, from Ange’s point of view, he’s going to be rewarded very well for that, so I don’t think we should feel sorry for him from that point of view.”

Forest have already left Postecoglou, as they are expected to appoint Sean Dyche as their next manager. They will be hoping for a return to form once he arrives at the City Ground.
