The church celebrates the gift of land of Dominion Energy as a catalyst for community revitalization

An update on a story that Wach Fox News brought you for the first time two years ago: land on Broad River Road in Columbia which was once considered a nuisance for neighboring companies has now found a new goal after a generous donation of Dominion Energy.

Society has officially gave more than eight acres in the field to the Word of God Church Ministry. The CEO of Dominion Energy, Keller Kissam, said that this decision was the right thing to do.

During a Sunday morning service, Bishop Eric Davis made the announcement to his congregation. “He gave me the file and he said:” Bishop, the land belongs to you “,” said Davis.

According to Mgr Davis, ownership is estimated at around $ 700,000. Bishop Davis said the land allows them to continue building the community.

“This land gives us a plethora of opportunities,” said Davis.

Dominion Energy’s donation aligns with the criteria of the SCEP program of the ministry which means a strategic community and economic partnership. This is a program that encourages companies and companies in the region to put a percentage of their profits in the community. Until Dominion’s donation, the city of Columbia was the first to participate in the program by donating $ 28,000. Kissam received the first annual Sceptor Prize on Sunday.

In 2023, the earth had become a painful eye after being overtaken by an illegal homeless camp. The authorities have also reported a high consumption of drugs on property. Local business owners have expressed concerns, calling it a serious nuisance in the region.

Wach Fox News discovered the current problems with the field after the president of the Broad River Road Alliance Javar Juarez contacted. Wach Fox News then contacted the Sheriff’s Department of the County of Richland and Dominion Energy, which owned the land at the time.

Shortly after the release of the homeless camp. Two years later, the field took a new goal.

“We love what Wach Fox 57 does in the community, taking stories like this,” said Kissam. “It started with your television news as a problem and now here we are in this glorious Fathers Day on Sunday with a solution that benefits this community for the years to come.”

He explained that the company had originally bought the land for a potential sub-station site to meet the growing energy needs in the region. “We were able to redirect energy in other areas, so we only pay taxes,” said Kissam.

Although there are not yet official property plans, Mgr Davis said that the objective was to improve the community.

The church has already developed a leisure center for local athletes, welcomes STEM camps for poorly served children and offers space for its “midnight basketball program”, aimed at keeping young people in the street and reducing armed violence.

“It is important for me to make people understand that we are not only beneficiaries, we are investors in the community,” said Archbishop Davis. “We have invested millions of dollars in the redevelopment of the community.

Dominion Energy makes donations each year to various community programs, including local non -profit organizations, STEM education efforts and the Midlands program. “What we want is restoration, and it symbolizes restoration in this important community,” said Kissam.
