The Brewers of Milwaukee expect that the first Rhys Hoskins player is missing “a few days” after leaving the defeat of the 4-2 team against the Miami Marlins on Saturday with a left thumb discomfort.
“It doesn’t look great,” said Brewers manager Pat Murphy after the match. “It is not fractured. He doesn’t feel very good at the moment. It is your hand at the bottom to swing, so it’s really, really important.”
Hoskins, 32, completed a triple of RBI in the second round before leaving the match two rounds later. Hoskins would have experienced pain in the thumb after reaching a wandering launch of the Joey Ortiz and marking Eric Wagaman from Miami.
Murphy and a Brewers coach immediately attended Hoskins after the room, although the first base player finished the round before being replaced by Jake Bauers in the fifth. Hoskins tried to enter a bat before the round, but told Murphy that he could not continue.
“So that it is like that and Rhys Hoskins, because I know who he is, it really has to hurt,” said Murphy. “I don’t think we will see it for a few days. I hope it’s not an IL, but it could depend on what he feels in the coming days.”
Hoskins strikes .242 with 12 circuits and 42 points produced in 82 games.
Hoskins is in his second season with the Brewers after spending the first six years of his MLB career with the Philadelphia Phillies. He is a career striker. 238 with 186 circuits and 529 products produced.
In two years with Milwaukee, Hoskins appeared in 212 games, hitting .223 with 38 circuits and 124 points produced.
