The black phone trailer 2 drops; Scott Derrickson teases a horror film

Dead is just a word.

This is the message behind the trailer for Universal and Blumhouse for Black phone 2Unveiled on Sunday at the CCXP Mexico, a pop culture agreement that is held in Mexico this weekend.

The film is the continuation of the surprise success of 2022 which made $ 161 million against a budget of $ 18 million. Based on a short story by Joe Hill, Stephen King’s son, the film presented the public at Grabber, a masked serial killer who removes children, locking them in his basement. Such a child, however, finds a rotary phone disconnected but haunted which connects it to the ghosts of previous boys. And in this, a possible way to go out.

The film ends (spoiler alert!) With the dead Grabber, so how is the hell back? The trailer shows in a relevant manner constructions to a frightening telephone conversation between our hero, played by a Mason backhand, and the Grabber, once again played by Ethan Hawke, with the latter saying to the adolescent: “You of everyone should know that Dead is only a word.” Then the trailer unleashes a dam of horror images.

Director and Co-Scenarist Scott Derrickson, who won The Hollywood Reporter Before the revelation of the trailer, he was tight with regard to the return. In fact, he was roughly tight on a lot.

But he developed the nature of ghost stories.

“The first film was a ghost film, but all ghosts were victims, which is typical, a story of ghosts,” he said. “But in this one, you have a ghost which is a villain.”

With the first film, Derrickson exploited his childhood from Denver, where intimidators and violence were common. For this one, he registered his experience in high school to go to the winter camps in the rocky mountains. The severity of the weather, the environment and the surrounding rocks contributed to the tone of the new film.

But the difference between the college and the high school of the characters is the big change in tone.

“A horror film of the College of Master is an animal different from a horror film of the school,” explains Derrickson. “A there is an intensity ratchet because of this.”

Derrickson did not necessarily provide for a series of Black phone But said Hill wrote him a month or two after the film was released with some ideas. And having settled him in the years of high school proved to be attractive, especially when he developed the timing in his head.

“I thought that if I will make another film first and that I do not follow now as if you are supposed to do it, then when I finish, these children will all be in high school,” he said. The film he made was the Monster Monster Budget film Apple TV + entitled Throat With Anya Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller. “And I can return to these characters at this different stage from their lives.”

And because of that, Black phone 2 is more a horror film than the first film, which he considers a supernatural thriller.

“It is certainly more violent, more frightening, more graphic,” he says. “And part of this is because of the age of children.”
