“The Big 3 already worried about their records”

Rafael Nadal recently spoke about the need for a third wheel that could push Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz to new limits. According to the 22-time Grand Slam champion, everything seems to come too easily for both of them, and even on their bad day, they can beat anyone.

Nadal also revealed which player that could be before adding that about the difference in competition between Alcaraz, Sinner and the rest of the field.

“”I think Sinner and Alcaraz need someone to push them… Fonseca? I think he’s still young and not able to think about it,” Nadal said. “They need someone to push them a little bit because they have distinguished themselves from everyone else and in any form they can beat anyone, until they come up against that other player. Those of us watching from the outside feel that even if they play badly, they will still win and reach every final.”

Fans slammed the Spaniard for his “hypocritical” view, as he himself dominated tennis with Roger Federer before Novak Djokovic arrived.

“I’m sorry but I don’t understand why the big 3 keep pushing this narrative that we need someone to upset Sinner and Alcaraz when they literally dominated everything for a decade and the new generation has just started. So hypocritical,” one fan wrote.

“The big three are already worried about their records,” one fan added.

“What he means is if there is no third wheel. His records are gone for sure 🤣. Carlos and Sinner easily surpass his 22,” one fan wrote.

“He wasn’t really happy when this Serb showed up to push them,” another commented.

“Nadal doesn’t admit that Djokovic’s surprise rise to GOATness in 2011 made him and Federer much better players 😆! I agree with him though. But in my opinion, it seems like neither of them want it enough like Djokovic. They’re just not hungry to beat Sincaraz in my opinion. They’re happy to be mediocre,” one fan said.

“Rafa is bored, wishes another Djokovic would appear and save the sport. Tennis clearly needs another Djokovic,” one fan wrote.

How have Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz dominated tennis over the past two years?

After the retirements of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, tennis has seen a transition at the top with players like Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner taking over the legacy. Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic is still active but he hasn’t found a way to overtake them for his elusive 25th Grand Slam title.

Alcaraz and Sinner have shared all the Grand Slam tournaments played over the past two years. Alcaraz, 22, is already a six-time Grand Slam champion, while the 24-year-old Italian has added four majors to his profile. Sinner won the 2024 and 2025 ATP Finals. Additionally, Sinner in 2024 and 2025 became the first man since Novak Djokovic to finish consecutive seasons with more than 11,000 ranking points.

In 2025, it was the first time since 2016 that the ATP’s top two stars finished above 11,000 points.
