England Jacob Bethell admits that he should have played more cricket this summer after the lack of test chances | Cricket news

Jacob Bethell thinks he should have played more cricket this summer after finding test opportunities with England difficult to find.

Bethell was only selected for the fifth and last test of the series against India and marked unique figures in the two rounds of defeat at the Kia Oval, which assured that the series was drawn.

The lack of involvement for Bethell – which struck the fifties in each of the three winter tests against New Zealand while England won this 2-1 series – was a key discussion subject during the summer and was amplified when it marked 58 out of 40 balls in the second ODI against South Africa.

Bethell did not fall for half a century on only 28 bullets while England faced South Africa in the second ODI in Lord’s.

The player himself says that he tried to stay focused in the midst of such speculation, but concedes that he should have played more cricket in the India series.

“There was a little noise [about me not playing enough] But I don’t really listen to him much, “he said.

“If I am honest, I should have played a little more when I did not play in the tests, but that’s something I will take and learn.

“Now I look at what I have in front of me so that this gap where I do not play could be nice for me.”

Bethell: playing for England a dream come true

Although he did not have much the opportunity to make his mark in the red ball cricket, Bethell strongly presented the limited team of England and has positive reflections on the summer overall.

“I really enjoyed [this summer]”He said.” The ODI series of the Antilles earlier in the summer was a laundering and it was great.

“I haven’t played much in the Test series in India, but I was in the group for many and to watch a series of topocyte tests was incredible.

Speaking on the podcast Sky Sports Cricket, the director general of England Men’s Cricket Rob Key, said Jacob Bethell had good leadership qualities.

“I had my chance in the last test and unfortunately I could not put a performance, but playing for England is a dream come true and I hope I can do it for a long time.”

“It will be a lesson for Bethell”

The former whiteball captain of England became Sky Sports expert, Eoin Morgan, said about Bethell’s lack of playing time this summer: “He had his say on the quantity of cricket he played, but the final decision falls with [England managing director] Rob Key and [head coach] Brendon McCullum.

“When the players are so young, you have to take into account the players’ own decision – they must have their own game.

“I have no doubt that it will be a lesson for Bethell and that to move forward, he will examine not only the tours he will take place, but will assume more responsibility for his own career and his performance.

“I think that one of its greatest attributes is that it is incredibly open and willing to grow. There is clearly an ear that listens to what is going on.

“When I see him with a bat and a ball in his hand or hear him speak, he is so hungry to learn. You can have all the talent of the world, but if you are not ready to learn, you will probably not be very long.”
