The Barcelona icon Carrasco disappointed the failed chart of Williams but supports Blaugrana to sign Diaz
The Barcelona icon, Francisco Jose Carrasco, did not hide his disappointment that the club did not obtain the signature of Nico Williams this summer.
The former winger, who spent more than a decade at Camp Nou and won 10 major titles, thinks that the star of the athletics club would have been a perfect addition to the Hansi Flick team – but admits that Luis Diaz de Liverpool could still be a strong alternative.
Speaking after a visit to the MD campus, where he participated in training sessions with young players and offered advice on the basis of his own experiences, Carrasco thought about the Barcelona transfer window and on occasion to call on Williams.
He described the international Spain as a “visual attraction” for young fans, comparing his popularity to that of the sensation of teenagers Lamine Yamal.
“I walk in the street and I see BarΓ§a shirts with the name of Lamine at the back everywhere, even in Madrid,” said Carrasco.
Carrasco was particularly disappointed that the move for Williams crossed, revealing that he shared the point of view of Manager Hansi Flick that the winger was an ideal target.
He suggested that the breakdown of negotiations was due to complications with agents and contractual clauses rather than the lack of efforts of the club.

From a tactical point of view, Carrasco thought that the arrival of Williams would have relieved pressure on Yamal, which is currently the main objective of opposition defenses, just like Lionel Messi was once.
He also questioned the adequacy of Raphinha as a coherent leftier, suggesting that the style of Williams and the natural width would have helped to unlock more space for Yamal.
“For the right passers -by, Nico would have been a focal point for the opponent, which would release the Lamine,” said Carrasco.
Despite his preference for Williams, Carrasco also praised Luis Diaz as a quality player who could still add a significant value to the team.
However, he recognized that the Colombian probably would have a higher cost. “He is also a wonderful player,” said Carrasco. “But I would have preferred Nico among those who were floated as potential signatures.”
As for Marcus Rashford by Manchester United – another name linked to the Catalan club – Carrasco was less convinced.
Although he recognized the high -level pedigree and the past performance of Rashford, he raised doubts about his ability to adapt to the demands of playing as a disciplined leftIe in the Barça system.
