Man Utd 0 – 1 Everton

Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United era reached a new low as they lost 1-0 to an Everton side playing over 75 minutes with 10 men after Idrissa Gueye’s red card for teammate Michael Keane.
In extraordinary scenes at Old TraffordGueye argued with centre-back Keane early in the first half and replays showed the midfielder raising his hands towards the Everton defender’s face.
This should have allowed United to completely control the game – quite the opposite. Amorim’s side looked like the 10-man team – and deservedly took the lead thanks to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s stunner from distance.
The midfielder’s solo run took him to the edge of the box before firing past the outstretched gloves of Senne Lammens and into the net – with other questions falling to a United keeper this season.
United failed to take full advantage of their extra man in the first half, with their players booed after their best chance was a 30-yard strike from Bruno Fernandes which Jordan Pickford simply saved.
United – missing Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha due to injury – started the second half in similar vein. Half-time substitute Mason Mount put two chances wide, while Bryan Mbeumo saw an effort saved by Pickford.
As United continued to work hard – and Amorim refused to part ways with their 3-4-2-1 formation, Aerial sports Gary Neville was getting frustrated by the minute during co-commentary.
“You have five in the back, why?” Neville said. “They still don’t win the first ball or the second ball. It’s embarrassing.
“The substitutes took him to a dead end. There is no agility or flexibility, firstly on the part of the coach, but also on the part of the players.”
United almost found a way back when Joshua Zirkzee, starting his first United game for 225 days, forced Pickford into two wonderful saves, before then heading a Kobbie Mainoo cross wide.
More boos rang out at full time as former United manager David Moyes secured his first victory at Old Trafford as guest manager. For Amorim, this is a huge low.
