On his return to international cricket, Virat Kohli was severely lacking in form and looked rusty every time he came to bat during the Australia tour. With a duck at Optus Stadium in Perth and another duck in Adelaide, where he scored a plethora of runs, Kohli seemed to have given up and decided to hang up his boots by the end of the tour.
In a gesture of gratitude, he waved to the Adelaide crowd, but speculation has it that Kohli might have hinted at retirement, and the farewell was meant for all his fans around the world, as he set foot on the field for the last time in international cricket.

Kohli had been tragically roasted on the online platform after the legend missed a single run since his return to international cricket. While attempting to flick Xavier Bartlett, Kohli was found upright, just in front of the stumps, and was again dismissed for a duck.
Following this dismissal, he had to bear the comparison with Pakistani youngster Saim Ayub, who ended up scoring three ducks in three consecutive matches for Pakistan in the 2025 Asia Cup.

Former Australian doesn’t want Virat Kohli to give up his thirst for running
Former Australian legend Ricky Ponting, who has been associated with Indian cricket through the IPL, wants Virat Kohli to return from Australia with some positivity and as much fitness as he can achieve. Kohli received widespread respect as well as a great reception from the Australian spectators and the Australian players as well.
Ponting insisted he wanted to see Kohli’s hunger and not rest on his previous innings, especially now when there is so much talk about the veteran’s place in the Indian squad for the upcoming World Cup.
“I think you still need to have very short-term goals and not just hang on to try to qualify for the 2027 World Cup,” Ponting told the ICC Review.
